JOB DESCRIPTION

Our client operates a successful not-for-profit organisation that is values driven and consists of five unique cemetery sites located in Sydney’s Northern Suburbs. They are currently seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate who is keen to join their team as a Grounds and Burials Apprentice.

The Role

This role is a unique opportunity as you will be exposed to all aspects of the horticulture trade, but also learn operational maintenance of cemetery grounds and surrounding nature areas. As this role covers both Grounds and Burials operations, candidates must be comfortable with working within a cemetery environment. 

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to (under direct supervision):

  • Participate in general gardening operations, such as controlling plant pests, diseases, and disorders
  • Maintain and clean-up the natural areas cross the site, this includes plants and lawn areas 
  • Installation and maintenance of plant and garden irrigation 
  • Conduct assessment of soil conditions and install appropriate shoring 
  • Use of digging machinery such as, excavators and other heavy machinery 
  • Contribute to work health and safety processes and policies 
  • Exposure to and specialist training in, grave digging using excavation equipment 
  • Clean and maintain all vehicles and equipment used throughout the course of your duties 

What are we looking for?

Our ideal candidate will have the following;

  • Be prepared for physical and outdoor work, 
  • Possess the ability to follow instructions, 
  • Have good communication skills, 
  • Keen to learn about site conditions whilst in confined spaces
  • Take pride in workmanship and working in a team environment 
  • Be motivated and enthusiastic
  • Must hold a current WHS White Card
  • Current Drivers Licence (Full license, preferred but not essential)
  • Ability to commit to a 48-month Apprenticeship

This is an opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while working towards a Certificate III Horticulture Parks and Gardens.

Working full time 38 hours per week, you will be given time off the job to attend TAFE. You will also have the support of a Squad Mentor who will visit you on site on a regular basis throughout your Apprenticeship.
