JOB DESCRIPTION

SHYC Pty Ltd has an opportunity for an experienced Shipwright to join our team who will take ownership of day-to-day projects, coxin duties, Shipwright duties, working on charters and boat detailing. To be eligible for this role you will have:

  • Prior experience in Shipwright & Joinery.
  • Extensive prior experience on superyachts on Sydney Harbour
  • Repairing, maintaining and building ships with timber and fiberglass
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of shipwright techniques, including fibre glassing experience
  • Studying plans and specifications, and preparing templates and scale plans for fabrication and cutting of hull sections
  • Installing masts, frames, decking, fittings, machines, shafts and safety equipment
  • Building and installing structures such as cabins, machine mountings, propeller supports and rudders
  • erecting and preparing launching platforms, conducting pre-launch tests and supervising launching procedures
  • Painting skills and experience would be an advantage (however not required)
  • Exceptional attention to detail, communication, and problem resolution skills
  • The ability to plan and source equipment & materials for specific tasks
  • Be 100% committed to a safe and tidy work environment
  • Ability to operate all size vessels under instruction and independently.

Essential Skills

  • Overall understanding of all vessel types
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be proficient in vessel operations and hold as a minimum an Unrestricted Coxswains Certificate of Competency (with a mandatory 4-5 years operational experience). A copy of your qualification needs to be provided in your application.
  • Must have general Boat License - a copy needs to be provided.
  • Must have RSA - a copy needs to be provided
  • Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction or similar qualification - a copy needs to be provided
  • A full Australian driver's license is also required to drive and pick up materials for jobs.
  • Time management skills with high level of accountability
  • Be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Good communications skills with management, staff and customers by phone, email and in person
  • Preferably worked in a similar position for five (5) years

Terms of Employment

  • six month probation period
  • Personal presentation and outstanding communication skills are essential when liaising with our customers
  • Must be willing and available all weekends and evenings

Salary is $65,000 + Superannuation
