We are currently seeking a motivated Station Assistant to join our Travel and Tourism team based in Kuranda. This position is responsible for performing routine duties associated with station operations to meet the demands of the service and the requirements of customers.



This is a permanent full-time opportunity which generally works between the hours of 0800 and 1600 and will include working weekends and public holidays.



We are looking for an adaptable individual who has outstanding communication skills. Your ability to work in a fast paced environment whilst being able to provide an engaging and memorable experience for customers will be paramount to your success in this role.



Key responsibilities of a Stations Assistant include:
  • Ensure the smooth operation of station platform and facilities
  • Assist with safe and on time arrival and departure of Travel and Tourism Services, including platform announcements and active platform management
  • Providing quality customer service by interacting, assisting and directing customers
  • Operate station machinery and equipment as detailed in operating procedure
  • Assist with proper upkeep, maintenance, repair and servicing of station facilities and equipment which includes cleaning of the station and the train as well as maintaining the gardens
  • Report anything that may impact on staff or customer safety direct to Station Master
  • Perform duties as detailed in local operating procedures (or equivalent) for each site
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the Station Master including safeworking duties associated with train movements in Kuranda Yard


We are looking for someone with proven outstanding face to face customer service skills. You will be self-motivated and can work within a team environment. In addition, you will need:
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills
  • Substantial ability to work in a team environment and autonomously
  • Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety requirements
  • Ability to undertake a variety of manual handling tasks including cleaning and changing out water bottles of up to 20 kilograms onboard our Kuranda Scenic Rail (KSR) services
  • Previous cleaning experience is desirable but not essential
  • Previous rail experience is desirable but not essential


This is a permanent full-time position with an annual salary of $55,793 + super + applicable penalty rates
