Your new role
Your new role involves you at the critical stages of the manufacturing process – before dispatching to clients - thus, expert ability to control large materials is vital, given you are cutting a pieces of material that is 400mm in diameter and 3 metres in length. Extensive knowledge and understanding of how materials may move and how to manipulate them is imperative.

You will also be capable of programming and operating large CNC (Lathe) Turning Machines (OKUMA) as well as Conventional Lathes (BINNS & BERRY). As the Large Turner Machinist, you will be able to manually input the drawing requirements into the machine or understand what tools are to be used as well as speed and feeds.

What you'll need to succeed

  • First Class Machinist or Toolmaker qualification minimum*
  • Competently able to manually input programs and set machines
  • Expertise in programming and operating large CNC turning machines (OKUMA) as well as conventional lathes (BINNS & BERRY)
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications to determine suitable material, method and sequence of operations, and machine tool settings
  • Can accurately machine metal parts, fabrications and raw castings specifically to drawings supplied
  • Carry out basic preventative maintenance on machines
  • 20+ years’ CNC / Conventional Machining expertise
  • Jobbing shop experience
