Our Cadia site is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding areas occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for

As an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Underground Mechanical Technician – Trades Assistant, you will work within our Major hazard, Critical control framework to ensure the assets within Cadia Fixed Plant and ancillary infrastructure are maintained to allow the mine to achieve or exceed safety and production targets.

Reporting to the Supervisor - Fixed Plant, you will primarily support the Fixed Plant Weekly team to ensure safe planning and execution of maintenance activities within the Cadia East Ore Handling System that supports world class availability.

Key deliverables include:

  • Actively participate in in all pre shift safety meetings
  • Being 100% engaged in safe work execution and living the teams “Newsafe” Behaviours.
  • Accurate end of shift handover with Supervisor and oncoming crew that effectively communicates any safety issues, plant issues, and any tasks that are not completed
  • Capture and raise issues within respective areas using the tools and systems provided
  • Highlight critical issues and communicate to the Mechanical Supervisor to ensure they are captured in the next available maintenance plan
  • Ensure compliance to completion of all pre-start checks on mobile equipment/vehicles, lifting equipment, overhead cranes etc
  • Proper usage and maintenance of Newcrest machines, tooling and equipment

To succeed in this role, you will have a strong work ethic, ‘can do’ attitude and proactive approach to continuously improve maintenance activities. In addition to your willingness to work and participate in a team environment, you will also possess:

  • Previous experience in Underground Fixed Plant Environment along with an understanding of underground mining operations
  • Experience operating Integrated Tool Carrier, Bobcat, JCB/Merlo
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel & Word
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise and in high pressure situations
  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge to work safely and follow procedures

Please note: Permanent residential role on a 7 Days/ 7 Nights/ 7 Off roster based in Orange, NSW
