The Company

For the last 30+ years, our client has manufactured purpose built pumping systems designed to their client?s requirements and specifications with a proven reputation of high quality, reliability and service.

Supplying to a wide range of industry sectors such as Mining, Construction, Heavy Industry and Oil & Gas our client has remained an industry leader through continual investment in infrastructure, personnel and product development.

From concept, design, manufacturing and delivery our client has a workforce of over 100 + dedicated employees that work across specialised departments, enabling them to have the ?in-house? capabilities to remain highly competitive and deliver quality products.

The equipment range is huge, where they don?t have ?off the shelf? products, they can design and build ?one off? specialised units through to conducting medium to large productions runs of 50 + units. The main pumping and water management products they specialise in include;

The Role

The Electrical Lead Hand main function is to support the Electrical Supervisor especially in the day to day operations of the Electrical Department. The day to day tasks and responsibilities of this role are varied and largely are project based work orders where at any one time there maybe 5 to 10 jobs in progress at various stages of completion.

The work will mainly be on the tools where it is estimated you will be dividing your time between;
  • Working on the Tools: 80%
  • Supervisor & Admin: 20%
The Electrical department has approximately 15 to 20 permanent team members which are made up of Grade A Electricians and Trades Assistants. When the department has large work orders the team can increase its numbers up to 25 to 30 people, where our client utilises contractors for short term work assignments to meet the increase in work demands.

Our clients Electrical Department performs several key functions which the Electrical Lead Hand will work across and includes;
  • Switchboard Production
  • Electrical Installation
  • Factory Assurance Testing / Product Testing
The Supervisory and Administration tasks of the role will include;
  • Conducting morning pre starts with the electrical team
    • Delegating work tasks to team members
    • Reviewing task specific safety procedures and hazards
  • Interviewing contractors for upcoming work & making decision if they are suitable or not
  • Onboarding new contractors
    • Explaining in detail work tasks and expectations of work productivity and quality
    • Training them on work procedures, work methods, documentation and QA
    • Explaining time keeping procedures for clocking on /off
  • Providing technical advice of work tasks to team members
  • Training or guiding team members of manufacturing and assembly techniques
  • Reviewing ?As Build? packs that include Electrical Plans (Single Line Diagrams & Panel Layouts) and assessing the job requirements such as technical requirements, parts and time frames
  • Assessing team members work regularly focussing on Quality Control, Productivity & Efficiency
  • Assisting & guiding team members who work requires improvement in areas such as QA or productivity
  • Reporting any safety hazards or incidents to the HSE Manager
  • Completing documentation such as daily job sheets, parts requests work schedules
  • Signing off on completed work (Own work as well as team members work)
  • Liaising with inhouse managers across several departments such as Production, Operations, Stores, Electrical Design and Project Management
  • Attending regular production meetings and providing input when required
The Hands on work will also be varied where you will may be working autonomously or with a team across the 3 main areas that include Switchboard Production, Product Testing & Electrical Installation.

Electrical Installation

This component of the job is similar to Electrical Fitting where you will be fitting and installing electrical components on equipment. The Electrical fitting will be varied as you will be working across small jobs such as fitting and terminating an electrical motor onto a pump shaft through to more complex jobs such as fitting a variety of electrical components to a large units where you may have to fit cable trays and steel conduit through to fitting and terminating switchboards that control numerous electrically powered components such as pumps, filters, UV lights and solar panels.

Switchboard Production

Our client manufactures the majority of the switchboards used in their water management equipment. The inhouse Electrical Engineering team, designs all the electrical systems including the switchboards where they provide single line and panel layout diagrams for all switchboards.

As the Electrical Coordinator, you will be building switchboards from scratch where the main tasks of the work include fitting, wiring and terminating components of control panels which include;
  • Mounting Enclosures & components
  • Busbars, Multistage Busbars & Threaded Busbars
  • Cable Ladders & Trays
  • Pushbuttons, Switches & Pilot Lights
  • Distribution, Terminal & Control Blocks
  • Enclosure cooling components
  • Electrical Protection ? surge protection devices, circuit breakers fuse & safety switches
  • Programmable Controllers ? PLC?s or PAC?s
  • Relays
  • Transformers
  • VSD & Soft Starters
  • Computer circuit boards
  • SCADA or HMI components

Electrical Testing

All our clients electrical systems such as switchboards and electrical components are tested thoroughly prior to job completion sign off and hand over. The electrical testing can be best described as having 2 main sections, which includes;
  • Switchboards
  • Factory Assurance Testing / Test Rig
The switchboard testing is standard testing, where you will be conducting the following, mainly on fitted switchboards on equipment.
  • Working off Log Book which makes up part of the Material Data Sheet
  • Visual inspection
  • Point to Point testing
  • Insulation Resistance Testing
  • Earth Continuity testing
  • Signing off on tested equipment
The Factory Assurance Testing is much more complicated than switchboard testing as our clients has a multi- million dollar Test Rig that is able to test and record data of numerous key components of equipment at the same time which include;
  • Controls ? PLC Programming, Telemetry and other control components
  • Power: Resistance , Power Distribution Boards, High Voltage 1,2 & 3 Phase, Low Voltage Components
  • Pumps: Hydrostatic Testing: Head pressure and flow rates, Efficiency & Emergency cut offs
  • Valves: Automated, Emergency Cut Offs and Manual Operated
The main responsibilities of the Test Rig work is to set up the equipment on the test rig correctly and configure the test parameters. Tests can run for 5 + hours where continual monitoring and reviewing data is required.

About The Candidate

As a minimum, the Electrical Lead Hand must possess a current Electrical Grade A licence, where candidates that possess additional electrical qualifications (listed below) are encouraged to apply;
  • Instrumentation
  • Open Cable Licence
  • HV Electrician
  • Electrical Fitter
High on our list are candidates that have worked in a similar role, ideally for companies that manufacture specialised equipment, especially in the following;
  • Pumping & Water Management
  • Switch Room & Control Panel Manufacture
  • Portable Gensets
  • Fixed Plant Manufacture ? Mining, Chemical or Heavy Industry
Candidates must have at least 5 years experience working as an Electrician where they have at least 1 year experience as a Lead Hand or Supervisory, where they are confident in managing and leading teams.

Technical skills will be another area of focus where we are seeking a candidate that have at least 3 years experience working on;
  • Switchboards - Manufacture
  • Electrical Fitting
  • VSD?s
  • PLC (No programming required)
  • Able to work off detailed Single Line Diagrams & Control Panel Layouts
  • Able to review and plan jobs from documents such as ?As Builds? or MDR?s
  • Can interpret detailed equipment or component manuals
  • Experienced in a wide range of electrical testing procedures and reporting

  • Be IT savvy, where you are proficient on computers and related software applications

  • Be able to work under pressure where tight deadlines occur regularly
  • Have attention to detail in all facets of your work
  • Be proficient in document control, compliance and record keeping
  • Have excellent organisational skills where prioritizing work and changing schedules is standard practice
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of Australian and International standards especially in relation to Electrical equipment
  • Be able to work overtime hours regularly to meet tight deadlines
  • Have the intention of securing long term employment

Remuneration

This is a permanent role where you will be employed directly by our client. Taking into consideration candidates qualifications, work experience and reference checks the salary range will be between;
  • Permanent Employment
  • $40.00 to $45.00 per hour
  • + Over Time
