Working in Council’s Integrated Water Services Section, this position performs a key role within the team responsible for maintaining water and wastewater systems in the communities of Glen Innes and Deepwater.
Reporting to the Coordinator of Integrated Water Services, you will:
- Participates in training, both on the job and off, to complete Certificate III in Water Operations (or an equivalent qualification).
- Assists qualified operators with the operation of electric motors, pumps and valves to regulate the flow of raw water from the pump station to the water treatment plant.
- Assists qualified operators to regulate the flow of water through filter beds to remove impurities.
- Learns the skills necessary to add specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, fluoride, aluminium sulphate, polyelectrolyte and activated carbon into water, either manually or using automatic dosing equipment, to clarify, disinfect and deodorise water.
- Assists qualified operators to clean tanks and filter beds, including using backwashing (reverse flow of water) procedures.
- Learns the skills necessary to test water samples during and after water treatment to determine pH, chemical levels and other data, and assists qualified operators to record data on operating sheets.
- Assists qualified operators to monitor control panels and adjust valves and gates to regulate the flow of raw sewage to the wastewater treatment plant.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Specifically, you will have:
Essential
- Demonstrated ability to be self motivated, learn new skills and participate in part-time study
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Sound mathematical skills with the ability to solve problems involving ratios, percentages, area and volume
- Class C driver’s licence (manual car licence)
- WorkCover Certificate General WHS Induction for Construction (White Card)
- Ability and willingness to participate in a weekend work roster when required
- Relevant experience in potable water treatment or reticulation systems
